As winter begins to settle over the vineyards and wineries of the Leelanau peninsula, snow begins to fall and the nights grow long, a new holiday tradition is just beginning. Several of the Leelanau peninsula wineries are decorating their beautiful landscapes with holiday lights for the entire month of December in celebration of Lights Over Leelanau and the holiday season!
Lights Over Leelanau was created by the Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail as a way to bring people together and celebrate the beauty of the season.
We stopped by to check out the festivities and get some great tasting samples of their wines. There's nothing quite like a great glass of wine, the company of friends, and festive lights to set the holiday mood!
Wineries along the Leelanau Peninsula have begun putting up their Christmas light displays and decorations this week.

This new tradition makes for a fun date night. A few of the special features include extended hours on Friday and Saturday evenings, firepits, igloos, drink specials, and special discounts, even a wreath building workshop at Amorita's! Of course these vary by location.
On the night we visited , our favorite holiday decorations were found at Shady Lane Cellars. They had gone all out and were really shining in the Christmas spirit! Their outdoor fire pits were a welcome treat along with their excellent range of wines.
Enjoy a special cranberry holiday mimosa inside one of Aurora Cellars heated igloos that overlook their vineyards and light decorations.
Sample world-class wines while you warm by the fire and admire the holiday light decorations and spread the holiday cheer(s)! This really is a perfect wine destination!
Amoritas will be serving a mulled wine and matching charitable donations for Leelanau Christian Neighbors.
